Ok this is a bit of a rant. With the recent announcement that HTC will shortly be releasing their new Diamond smart phone, all you can read about is whether it will compare with the iPhone. So since when did anything in the mobile industry become a comparison to the over priced, under featured IPhone?
I’ll be honest, I’ve never used an iPhone, I have used an iPod Touch, and yes there is a quality feel about it, the touch screen definently stands out. However, for me, that’s where its advantages ends. The iPhone had a similar release date to the N95, and for me the N95 still shows what a smart phone should be about. The first to include an internal GPS antenna, even if it did take 6 months for them to get it working correctly, a 5 mpx camera etc.
Apple has always had a massive following, with the iPod the stand out device, but why should everyone who has an iPhone immediately condemn any other phone using similar technology (lets face it, the only tech Apple introduced with the iPhone was a touch screen, which I felt was the natural way for most devices to go), otherwise you could go and buy yourself a Sony Ericsson K750i, you might not get a decent web browser, but you get just about everything else an iPhone offers. In a phone that’s so great a browsing the internet, did they not put 3g in? At the time the 3.5g standard was beginning to take hold.
So to all those Apple fanboys out there, stop condemning every device on earth as a cheap iPhone rip off just because it has similar features (or more as most cases seem).
I’m just waiting for someone to tell me my HP C8180 printer is a cheap iPhone rip off because it too uses a touchscreen!
